German automaker BMW always pushes hard for its 8 series versions. Company is always upfront about the fact that its 8 Series would be more than just a luxury two-door GT. But, 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is four-door. Besides that there are three versions of the sleek “four door coupe” are being revealed today, topping out at the 2020 M850i xDrive Gran Coupe with a healthy 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
The BMW 8 Series flagship coupe, offers inspiring amounts of ride quality, performance, interior trimmings and you name it. Alongside that the smaller edition is replaced by the longer sedan.
2020 BMW 8 Series
BMW unveiled the 2020 8 Series Gran Coupe, just like the 6 Series Gran Coupe before it. Moreover, the 8 Series GC places a focus on adding interior space and two extra doors. It’s meant as more of a fashion-forward choice than BMW’s other large luxo-barge, the 7 Series sedan. But like the regular 8 Series, the four-door variant is packed to the brim with the latest stuff BMW has to offer.
Besides adding two more doors and five seats, BMW lengthened the 8 Series Coupe by 9.0 inches with everything from the windshield back,. Now, this sedan is more upright, having a unique design. The car is also 1.2 inches wider and 2.2 inches longer with 7.9 inches added to the wheelbase.
Coming to its interior, it has Nappa leather on the dashboard and door panel uppers. Besides that, both 840 model interiors get stitched up with Vernasca leather in Black, Ivory White or Cognac. The M850i goes for Individual Extended Merino Leather instead, in Black, Ivory White, Cognac or two-tone options Night Blue/Black, Tartufo/Black or Fiona Red/Black.
On the other hand, it has 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel, the latest heads-up display hangs just over the hood in the driver’s line of sight. Not only that the sedan is equipped with the latest iDrive illuminates the 10.25-inch screen on the instrument panel.
Power Point
For the power engine, BMW has added 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine for 8 Series Gran Coupe. So, it will produce 335 hp (249 kW) and 368 lb-ft (498 Nm) of torque. This will come in two options rear and all-wheel drive with the BMW 840i and 840i xDrive. The engine pairs with the same eight-speed transmission. BMW says the V8-powered Gran Coupe can hit 60 mph (96 kph) from a standstill in 3.7 seconds while the six-cylinder RWD version takes 4.9 seconds. AWD shortens that by 0.3 seconds.
The 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe pricing starts at $84,900 for the 840i Gran Coupe. Whereas, $87,800 for the 840i xDrive Gran Coupe, and $108,900 for the M850i xDrive.
